COFFEE8

2018 LONDON

Mobile Project / Zero-Emission

For this project we were commissioned by a long-standing mobile coffee business to design and build a zero-emission mobile coffee shop, partly supported by the ZEN – Zero Emission Network initiative. The client supplied the cargo tricycle, Italian espresso machine, and grinder, while we developed the complete mobile kiosk structure and working layout.

The design integrates all essential components required for professional coffee service within a compact and mobile format. This includes space for water storage, battery supply, gas bottles, stock storage, a sink and tap, and display shelving, while ensuring efficient workflow for the barista.

Several constraints shaped the design. Weight had to be carefully managed due to the cargo tricycle platform, while the overall height was limited by the client’s 2 m-high garage door, where the unit is stored. The structure also needed to be weatherproof, corrosion-resistant, and fully lockable, allowing it to operate reliably in outdoor urban environments.

The final construction combines aluminium framing and phenolic film-faced birch plywood panels, assembled using connector bolts and rivets, resulting in a lightweight yet robust mobile coffee shop.
